Obesity in the presence of end stage renal disease poses a significant challenge to
a patient’s medical team. Patients have increased risk for kidney stones, pretransplant
diabetes, new onset diabetes after transplant, and hypertension. The glycemic and
hypertensive impact of obesity may accelerate chronic kidney failure. Transplant is
more technically challenging, with an increased risk of delayed graft function and
acute rejection, and a medicinal challenge to appropriate immunosuppression and dosing(
